OHV Safety Week Helps Enthusiasts Get the Most Out of Their Summer

IRVINE, Calif., June 4, 2026 — Summer is prime time for outdoor adventures, with families and friends taking to the trails on ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides. To help everyone make the most of their rides, the ATV Safety Institute, Motorcycle Safety Foundation, and Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association are teaming up for OHV Safety Week, June 13-21, with free training, online tools, and tips to encourage everyone to recreate responsibly.

“OHV recreation offers an incredible way to experience the outdoors,” said Jun Villegas, a chief instructor and coach with ASI, MSF, and ROHVA. “By getting training, wearing safety gear, riding responsibly, and respecting our trails and public lands, riders and drivers can help preserve access to these areas for future generations while keeping themselves and others safe.”

To help riders build confidence and sharpen their skills, free on-vehicle ATV training will be available at training sites nationwide. Riders can visit RideOHV.com to find a location and to register.

With side-by-sides, also known as ROVs, this year’s safety message is simple: “Buckle In Before You Adventure Out.” Whether you’re taking scenic trails or tackling rugged terrain, wearing a seat belt is one of the easiest and most important steps drivers and passengers can take to stay safe. Off-road terrain can be unpredictable, and seat belts help keep everyone securely inside the vehicle throughout the ride.

OHV Safety Week also shares these five key tips:

• Wear a Department of Transportation-compliant helmet and appropriate protective gear every time you ride. In an ROV, always wear your seat belt.

• Keep ATVs and ROVs off paved roads. These vehicles are designed for off-road use only.

• Ride only in designated areas, obey posted signs, travel at a safe speed, and help protect the trails for future generations.

• Make sure riders are on age-appropriate vehicles. ATVs are not one-size-fits-all, and youth riders should be on models designed for their age and size. With ROVs, drivers must be 16 years or older with a valid driver’s license.

• Take advantage of the free ATV and ROV online training, then sign up for hands-on training to build skills and ride with confidence.

This summer, take a few minutes to prepare and gear up before you head out to the trails. A little planning goes a long way toward ensuring every ride is filled with great fun and great memories.
