ATV Safety and Awareness Campaign: Since May 2005, the ATV Safety Institute has sent e-mails to school superintendents and principals across the country as the school year comes to a close, asking them to impress upon their students and their parents the importance of all-terrain vehicle safety. The e-mail includes a letter to parents and guardians on the importance of ATV safety and supervising riders under age 16, as well as activity sheets on ATV safety for grades K-6 and 7-12. We received numerous positive responses, as well as a request to translate the letter to parents and guardians into Spanish, and to provide a complete supply of the letter and the activity sheets for all of their students to take home.
- E-mail was sent to over 166,857 superintendents and principals across the country
- Potential outreach 18 million teachers, parents, and students
Nationwide ATV Safety Events: The ATV Safety Institute’s Rider Training Services Staff and ATV Instructors are highly involved in numerous ATV safety events around the country. From consumer events to tradeshows, from school safety days to events for state and local organizations, ASI Staff and Instructors assist with event planning, coordination, equipment procurement, range design, ATV safety materials, and on-the-ground staff to keep everything running smoothly for the event’s duration.
Participating in ATV safety events gives ASI the opportunity to expand its reach to inform and educate current and prospective riders about the Golden Rules of ATV safety and provides more opportunities to offer riders enrollment in the ATV RiderCourseSM.
Protect Yourself, Protect the Planet: In 2004, the major manufacturers of ATVs and Weekly Reader Corporation created an educational program that calls on teachers, parents, and community leaders in rural areas to stress the importance of ATV safety education for youth. The goal is to educate the public, especially parents and kids under 16 years of age, about safe ATV operation and how to be an environmentally responsible ATV rider. The program had the potential to reach:
- 60,000 educators
- 1.8 million students
- 3.6 million parents
